Rehab
At Channel Islands Rehab, we assign a personal mentor to each patient, and our RNs work round the clock to assist recovering addicts with medications and withdrawal symptoms. At our rehab, we have a team of dedicated admission counselors who will be your point of control throughout treatment.
How does CBT differ from other psychotherapies?
Cognitive-behavioral therapy acts as a hands-on alternative when compared to other psychotherapies. During a CBT session, recovering addicts and therapists work together, where the latter train the former on highly effective coping techniques.
CBT takes only 16 sessions to produce promising results in recovering addicts, making it the most effective psychotherapy. This psychotherapy is easily adaptable in both individual and group therapy settings and plays a pivotal role in our alcohol and drug addiction treatment programs.
Top 3 tips for relapse prevention
More than 50% of recovering addicts give into relapse within the first six months after addiction treatment. Here are several tips on preventing relapse:
- Self-Care – Insomnia, and fatigue are some of the common post-acute withdrawal symptoms that patients experience in the initial few months after treatment. Be sure to engage in regular physical exercise and eat a balanced diet to improve the quality of sleep
- Recognize triggers – Some of the common triggers include anxiety, stress, anger, certain people, situations, memories, and things. Make a list of internal and external triggers to improve awareness when around them, as this can reduce the chances of relapse.
- Join a support group – Make sure to attend support group sessions regularly as it provides a sense of support, accountability, and offers you an opportunity to meet peers going through similar issues like you.
At our rehab center, we offer continuing care programs for recovering addicts to help them stay focused on sobriety. We specialize in equipping our patients with effective coping skills to combat triggers and stress-causing situations.
Effective cognitive behavioral therapy techniques
Our cognitive-behavioral therapists use certain exercises to help patients attain recovery. Some of the CBT techniques that we use include:
- Thought records – We use this technique to teach recovering addicts how to examine their automatic negative thoughts. Thought records are a mental exercise, where individuals learn to list the arguments for and against their automatic thoughts, which enables them to arrive at a balanced and rational decision after a critical evaluation of facts.
- Behavioral experiments – These are exercises that we use to train recovering addicts to contrast their negative thoughts against positive ones. These exercises help in bringing about a positive change in behavior.
- Imagery based exposure – In this exercise, we encourage our patients to recall a painful memory that causes negative feelings and ask them to take note of every sound, emotion, smell, sight, and thought attached to that memory. In each CBT session, we make our patients revisit these painful memories, which, in return, reduces the anxiety associated with that memory over time.
